The age old question that hair stylists hear each and every day! In truth, how often we cut our hair is actually dependant on many factors such as length, condition, colour and goals.
The first thing to note is that on average, hair grows half an inch every 4 weeks. Secondly, it is important to talk to your stylist so they can help you to achieve your #hairgoals by advising what is best for you and your hair type.
If your hair is coloured, chemically straightened, permed or highlighted you will need to have your hair trimmed more regularly – about every 4 to 6 weeks. By chemically processing our hair we cause it to break, split and become dry. This means more regular trips to the salon!
Long hair = old hair. Hair that has grown out tends to be dry, more brittle and thinning due to the aging process of the hair. It is recommended that longer hair needs to be cut every 8 to 12 weeks. If you notice split ends and more breakage then it may need to be cut more frequently.
As you know if you have short hair – it tends to grow out quite quickly! While dryness and split ends are usually not a problem for those with short hair, it is important short hair gets a trim every 4 weeks to keep the style looking fresh! Who said shorter hair was lower maintenance?
If you are trying to grow your hair out it is especially important to consult with your hairdresser. They can advise the best action to take for your specific hair type and needs. The truth is that regular haircuts do not make hair grow faster. Getting a regular trim helps the hair stay as healthy as possible and maximises growth potential!
